Sunrocket Review Part 6: Reflections On The Sunrocket Experience

So now I've been using Sunrocket for a few days, and have had a chance to actually experience its features and reliability, so I thought I'd update my review.

To begin with, service seems reliable...no outtages that I've noticed. This seemed to be the main complaint against Sunrocket in the past, but since I've gotten up and running, the problems appear to have been taken care of.

On the other hand, call quality has ranged widely, from cell-phone like (worse than a normal phone line) to unusable (frequently). I've very rarely had a connection as good as normal POTS line (Plain Old Telephone Service).

I'm not that impressed. Call quality issues make this a feasible solution instead of a stellar one. For the price, Lingo definitely provides a better product in terms of quality.

On the other hand, Sunrocket now tells me that this is most likely due to my running the service over a Wifi connection. Of course, their sales guys didn't mention this when I was signing up...instead, I was told that it would work just wonderfully.

Other than that, everything appears to be running fine. I couldn't log in to my voicemail today, and I've occasionally had quality issues when connecting to it (voicemail, apparently, suffers the most if you're connecting over a bursty wifi connection), but other than that, no complaints to report. I'd recommend Sunrocket as an alternative to SBC if you're looking to save some major bucks, but it does have its problems...and of course, if you ever have to resort to tech support, my own horror story of an experience makes me shudder to wish that on anyone.
