Since search engine optimization / marketing (referred to as SEO or SEM) is both an interest of mine and a requirement for my sites, it was natural that I looked for strong search engine optimization options built-in when I was looking for a CMS.
Drupal won hands down. For users of the Drupal or CivicSpace content management systems, here are some basic ideas on getting started with search engine optimization. For most users, this should be enough to get your organization's site noticed online, and might even stimulate a steady stream of traffic. Remember that search engine optimization work is slow and gradual if you want real, organic results, and you shouldn't expect results in less than a month or more (possibly up to six months, for a new site).
If you're patient, the process pays off with a highly visible, well organized website drawing healthy amounts of traffic from interested users...definitely a goal worth working towards. After all, that's why you have a website in the first place, right?
